Program Cost

The cost of the two week intensive course is determined by the following two options that will be made possible to you on a first-come-first-served basis. The 11 nights of stay will be provided by a hotel from October 1 to 11, and the stay on October 12th, October 13th will be provided by the lodge at Ashu in the mountain. The followings are the costs for the 13 nights of stay including the stay in the lodge at Ashu.

  1. Share room (4,750yen/day) The seminar cost is 350,000 Japanese yen (Approximately $3,097US at ¥113/$1).

  2. Single room (6,100yen/day) The seminar cost is 364,850 Japanese yen (Approximately $3,229US at ¥113/$1).

This course fee covers all lectures, course materials provided in Japan, housing for the duration of the two week course (13 nights • shared accomodations), and transportation fees to and from gardens within Japan while participating in the course.

If you choose option 1) from above, the Center will be in-charge of the room assignments for you.

Please note:

  • The Center will make reservations at the hotel for you only for the duration of the seminar.
  • For additional reservations for other durations before or after the seminar, and for any questions regarding your stay in Kyoto, please check the website or contact the hotels.
  • Breakfast and other meals will not be included in the above cost.

Application and Cancelation

Application

Please use only the on-line application form on the website. Please do not fax or use postal mail to send in your application form.

Deadline of the Application

ALL APPLICATIONS FOR THE YEAR 2017 PROGRAM MUST BE RECEIVED BY May 31, 2017.

Please note:

  • We will examine your application form to select prospective participants for the seminar. We will inform you of the selection results. The payment method will be informed to those who have been accepted for the seminar. The payment deadline will be June 30, 2017.
  • Applicants from certain countries will be required to have a personal guarantor (from Japan) before they can obtain a visa to enter Japan. Please check with the Japanese consulate in your country to see if a guarantor is required in your case. If a guarantor is required, you must make those arrangements individually, and the Research Center for Japanese Garden Art & Historical Heritage cannot become a personal guarantor for any applicant or offer support in finding guarantors. If you are required to obtain a personal guarantor, please organize those plans before you fill-out the on-line application to join the Seminar.

Cancelation of the Seminar by the Center

Please note that the seminar may be canceled in the following situations:

  • The final number of applications does not reach the minimal number required for the Center to hold the seminar.
  • Not enough number of prospective participants make their payments on time, and the Center cannot ensure the budget to hold the seminar.
  • Natural disaster or any unexpected socially unstable condition.

We will inform you of the seminar's cancelation no later than August 1, 2017 on this website. If cancelation is decided after the payments are made, the Center will refund all the amounts of payments that have been made before the cancelation notice.

Cancelation by the Prospective Participants

Cancelations by the prospective participants will be handled in the following manner:
50% of the fee will be charged for cancelations made on and after August 1st.
No refund for cancelations made on and after September 1st.
