Program Cost

The cost for the two week intensive course is determined by the following two options (early bird or late) that are available on a first-come-first-served basis. Twelve nights of stay will be provided by a hotel from September 28 to October 9, in the Urban Hotel Kyoto-Shijo Premium (uh-urban.com) (- for your comfort, single stay rooms are double or twin). Two nights of stay on October 10th, and October 11th will be provided by the lodge at Ashu in the mountain ( - there you will share, and stay with 4 people in one Japanese tatami room). The seminar costs given below include these 14 (12+2) nights of stay.

Early bird registration open!

Early bird can benefit from the discount, but should register and conclude payment before May 31, 2025.
Early bird discount price is: 490,000 Japanese yen

For late application with payment received after May 31, 2025, the fee for the seminar is 550,000 Japanese yen. If you apply after May 31, 2025, it is advised to get in touch with us first, to see if there are still participant positions open.

This course fee covers all lectures, course materials provided in Japan, housing for the duration of the two week course (12 nights single + 2 nights shared accommodation), and transportation fees to and from gardens within Japan while participating in the course.

Important, please note:

  • The Center will make reservations at the hotel for you, but only for the duration of the seminar.
  • For additional reservations before or after the seminar, and for any questions regarding your stay in Kyoto, please check the website or contact the hotels.
  • Breakfast and other meals (apart from the meals in the Ashu mountain lodge) are not included in the above cost.
  • During the 2025 Intensive Seminar the accommodations for your stay in Japan will be booked by the Research Center for Japanese Garden Art & Historical Heritage. Since this seminar is a group activity, please do not make your own hotel reservations.
  • It is not possible to bring your spouse, friend, kids, etc. to the seminar. Rooms are for single stay and cannot be shared. Our hotel reservation is part of the package, and cannot be deducted or cancelled separately.

Application and Cancelation

Application

Please use only the on-line application form on the website. Please do not fax or use postal mail to send in your application form.

Please note:

  • We will examine your application form to select prospective participants for the seminar. We will inform you of the selection results. The payment method will be informed to those who have been accepted for the seminar.
  • Applicants from certain countries will be required to have a personal guarantor (from Japan) before they can obtain a visa to enter Japan. Please check with the Japanese consulate in your country to see if a guarantor is required in your case. If a guarantor is required, you must make those arrangements individually, and the Research Center for Japanese Garden Art & Historical Heritage cannot become a personal guarantor for any applicant or offer support in finding guarantors. If you are required to obtain a personal guarantor, please organize those plans before you fill-out the on-line application to join the Seminar.

Cancelation of the Seminar by the Center

Please note that the seminar may be canceled in the following situations:

  • The final number of applications does not reach the minimal number required for the Center to hold the seminar.

  • Natural disaster or any unexpected socially unstable condition.
  • We will inform you of the seminar's cancelation no later than August 1, 2025 on this website. If cancelation is decided after the payments are made, the Center will refund all the amounts of payments that have been made before the cancelation notice.

Cancelation by the Prospective Participants

Cancelations by the prospective participants will be handled in the following manner:
50% of the fee will be charged for cancelations made on and after July 25th.
No refund for cancelations made on and after August 25th.
We will deduct the handling fee from the total amount and refund the rest.
The seminar fee cannot be carried over to the next year's seminar.

We look forward to receiving your application.
